Pofadder was named after Klaas Pofadder, a oranna (Koi-Koi) Captain of the area. Pofadder is situated on the main route from Upington to Springbok and 60km from the Onseepkans borderpost to Namibia.

Pofadder Hotel has been the property of the Brits Family, for 26 years and has also been, and still is, managed by them. The tourist has a choice in accommodation of Hotel, Chalets and Flats.
